Flat Cars

We offer two variations of flat cars, a common 40' 50-ton FM type welded drop girder flat car designated for general freight service, and a 53' 70-ton cast steel commonwealth underframe flat car.

The 40' flat car is constructed of an all-wood body and frame, with cast zinc bolsters. We use precision milled hardwood for the sides, center sill, and end panels, provide a 1/4" plywood subdeck, and precut oak or cedar for the main deck.

The 53' flat car is a one piece 32 pound aluminum casting with precut oak decking.

The body comes primed, or painted and lettered in your choice of roadname with a historically correct number unique to your car. Operative couplers and draft gear, grab irons, stirrups, brake wheel and staff, cut levers, glad hands, angle cocks, and all necessary fasteners are included.

We also have an optional 20' Shipping container for use on the 53' flat car. Add authenticity to your model by placing two on the flat car, and/or use it as a riding seat.
